At first glance, it didn’t look promising.
The stone house, right next to ours, was in a rather sad state.
Rundown, neglected, alone. Its front stone wall was like the huge belly of a pregnant woman in an advanced stage.. Ivy was tirelessly conquering every free corner of it.
The roof had long since given up and kissed the basement of the house.
The roof of the small house next to it, which had once been a living room for the chickens, peeked out from the bushes.
And yet…
That house breathed “that something”.
And at a second glance, it promised that it could grow into something worthy of admiration and attention.
It “just” needed a lot of love and attention.
“Just” lasted ten years. In which everything was subordinated only to her.
Cinderella slowly turned into a beauty that attracts sighs and attention.
We thought for a long time about how to give a name to the beauty with a soul.
And then, like a bolt from the blue, such an ordinary, simple word appeared that said everything about her. Our Mila (which means someone who is dear or dear to you). And which was quite “accidentally” embroidered from the first letters of our grandchildren (or our children).

About Residence
Holiday Home Mila is a beautiful, newly renovated (2023) two-storey villa located in the peaceful hamlet of Jakusi above Ičići, just 9 km from Opatija and 3.5 km from the sea and beaches. Set in a quiet, sunny, elevated position, the property offers 600 m² of private outdoor space with a 60 m² lawn, wildlife garden, and a private angular swimming pool (8 x 5 m, depth 140 cm) with an internal staircase and a salt-electrolysis cleaning system, available from April 1st to October 15th. Guests can enjoy a large terrace (150 m²) with garden furniture, sun loungers, an outdoor shower, and a barbecue area. The house also features free Wi-Fi, a washing machine, and private on-site parking. Shops, restaurants, and beaches are all within easy reach — 3.5 km to the nearest shop, 5 km to the supermarket, 3 km to the closest restaurant, and only 300 m to the nearest bus stop. Shingle, public, and concrete beaches are all located 3.5 km away. Please note that parties and events are not allowed. Inside, Holiday Home Mila offers 155 m² of spacious living across two levels. The bright and airy living/dining room (63 m²) features a double sofa bed (160 x 190 cm), cable TV, air conditioning, and direct access to the terrace and swimming pool. The fully equipped open kitchen includes an oven, dishwasher, ceramic hob, kettle, freezer, and electric coffee machine, with a separate WC nearby. On the main level, there is a bedroom (16 m²) with a French bed (180 x 200 cm), private shower, bidet, WC, and air conditioning. The lower ground floor has two bedrooms — one 20 m² with a French bed (180 x 200 cm), private shower, bidet, WC, and air conditioning; and another 19 m² with a French bed (180 x 200 cm), private shower, WC, air conditioning, and both with terrace access. Additional comforts include floor heating (extra charge), a 45 m² sea-view terrace with outdoor furniture and sun loungers, a storage room, a safe, iron, baby cot, free Wi-Fi, and covered parking for two cars.
Location
Just a short drive from the house, Opatija awaits — a chic, historic seaside resort known for its stunning architecture, lush parks, and vibrant atmosphere. Nestled at the foot of Mount Učka (1,400 m) and located just 12 km southwest of Rijeka, Opatija offers a perfect mix of charm and modern amenities.
Here, you’ll find everything you need: supermarkets, shops, bakeries, butchers, boutiques, banks, post offices, and a wide range of restaurants, cafés, bars, nightclubs, and even a casino. The town hosts regular folklore evenings, concerts, and lively events throughout the year.
For relaxation, there’s an indoor aquatic centre, wellness and fitness centres, saunas, solariums, massage services, and thalassotherapy. Opatija also has pharmacies, doctors, and additional shopping and entertainment options within a 2 to 12 km radius.
During summer, Opatija offers a wide choice of beaches, from pebble and rocky to family-friendly shores with full facilities. Enjoy water sports like diving, sailing, surfing, water skiing, and canoeing, or stay active with tennis, beach volleyball, hiking, and cycling along more than 40 km of bike paths and mountain trails.
